House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said in a last-minute fundraising e-mail for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee that Democrats have “already had disturbing reports about the Republicans trying to depress voter turnout in Democratic areas.”

The DCCC will “have eyes and ears already on the ground, looking out for anything suspicious,” Hoyer said in the e-mail. “They also have legal teams ready to be dispatched at a moment’s notice any place where a recount is likely so we can decisively challenge all irregularities,” he added.

“Already this cycle, we had a special election where the outcome was in question after Election Day. Recount funds were needed to guard against Republican dirty tricks and secure Congressman Scott Murphy’s victory by less than 1,000 votes,” Hoyer wrote.

Hoyer wrote that the DCCC “has the most aggressive election protection operation in town.”

Conservative and Tea Party groups have been calling attention to voter fraud this year, as TPMMuckraker has been reporting, and many have been launching poll watching groups.

Remember what happened in Florida 10 years ago when the lack of voter protections cost Al Gore the Presidency and put George W. Bush in office?

Imagine the same scenario happening tomorrow, with control of Congress hanging in the balance.

Think it can’t happen? The final round of polling shows more than three dozen races that are too close to call. And we’ve already had disturbing reports about the Republicans trying to depress voter turnout in Democratic areas.

We need to do everything in our power to make sure that no registered voter is denied the opportunity to have his or her vote counted in this election. The DCCC is on the ground today in races nationwide and knocking on doors to ensure that tomorrow’s turnout is the strongest ever but we need to reserve funds for our election protection efforts for tomorrow and for any possible recount scenarios moving forward.

Rush an emergency contribution to Protect the Vote in advance of tomorrow’s elections.

Already this cycle, we had a special election where the outcome was in question after Election Day. Recount funds were needed to guard against Republican dirty tricks and secure Congressman Scott Murphy’s victory by less than 1,000 votes.

The DCCC has the most aggressive election protection operation in town. If you want to report anything suspicious on Election Day, you can call our Election Protection Hotline at (202) 478-9488. We will be on standby to take these reports and swoop into action.

We have eyes and ears already on the ground, looking out for anything suspicious.

They also have legal teams ready to be dispatched at a moment’s notice any place where a recount is likely so we can decisively challenge all irregularities.

With so much at stake for the middle class in this election, we must do everything in our power to protect every voter and count every last vote. Nothing less than the future of our democracy is at stake. Please help us protect the vote.

Steny Hoyer
House Majority Leader

P.S. Don’t forget to vote tomorrow and to get your Democratic friends and neighbors out to vote tomorrow. It is all coming down to turnout. Thank you for always standing with us. [Emphasis in original]
