Taiwanese PC manufacturer Asustek (Asus for short) sold 1 million units of its Google Nexus 7 tablet during the month of October, the company’s chief financial officer David Chang told The Wall Street Journal in a report published late Tuesday. Chang also said that was up from sales of 500,000 when the Nexus 7 tablet was first unveiled at Google’s I/O conference in June, and up from 600,000 and 700,000 per month in the following months.

The Nexus 7, 7-inch tablet is sold in retail outlets and through the Google Play online store. Analysts have projected Google and Asus to sell anywhere between 4 million and 8 million of the devices by the end of the year, still well shy of the Apple iPad’s over 60 million projected sales total. Google on Tuesday unveiled a larger version, the Nexus 10, made by Samsung, as well as upgrading the memory on the 7-inch Nexus 7 from 8GB to 16GB. The 8GB model has been discontinued.
