Apple is said to have reduced orders of components for the iPhone 5 on weaker-than-anticipated demand, The Wall Street Journal reported late Sunday night. Screen orders alone are said to have been halved.

Third-party iOS apps developer Marco Arment speculates that the report, coming as it does ahead of Apple’s first quarter 2013 earnings on January 23, could have been designed to depress Apple stock in advance of a strong earnings statement.
