Politico has posted the email exchange between Bob Woodward and White House economic adviser Gene Sperling, who told the veteran Washington journalist he will “regret” saying the sequester stipulated only spending cuts.

Sperling’s email to Woodward began with an apology for raising his voice in an earlier conversation.

“But I do truly believe you should rethink your comment about saying saying that Potus asking for revenues is moving the goal post. I know you may not believe this, but as a friend, I think you will regret staking out that claim,” Sperling added in the email.

Woodward seemed unruffled by the exchange. In response to Sperling, Woodward wrote: “I for one welcome a little heat; there should more given the importance. I also welcome your personal advice. I am listening.”
