Woman Tied To Louisiana Deputy Shootings Pleads Guilty

Chanel Skains, the woman charged with accessory after the fact to attempted first-degree murder charges in connection with the August shooting of sheriff’s deputies outside New Orleans, has pleaded guilty, The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. From the paper:

Skains is the wife of Terry Smith, 44, who is the father of Brian Smith, one of the accused shooters, and Derrick Smith. Terry and Derrick Smith are both being charged as accessories.

A witness has said that Skains tried to save one of the deputies at the time of the shooting.

She will not be sentenced until after the case is resolved, suggesting that she has agreed to cooperate with prosecutors.
