A woman who lives a few houses away from scene of the manhunt in Watertown described the situation to TPM on Friday night as police swarmed the area in search of 19-year-old Boston bombing suspect Dzokhar Tsarnaev.

The woman, who asked to be identified only as a resident of Birch Road, said she lived just five or six houses away, backyard to backyard, from where law enforcement had located Tsarnaev.

“My husband stepped out on our porch and he heard gunshots,” she said by phone. “I don’t know — it was 8 or 12 gunshots. Then I opened the door and said, ‘Get in here!’ And suddenly the police and everybody are all over the place. It’s like they opened a can of ants. The police and swat team are everywhere. Everywhere.”

Asked if she felt safe being on the same block as the most wanted man in America, she said, “I feel absolutely safe.”

Applause was audible in the neighborhood as Tsarnaev was arrested around 8:45 P.M. ET.

“He’s been arrested and he’s been taken away,” she said seconds later. “The neighborhood is in tears.”
