An emotional Stephen Colbert returned to his Comedy Central program on Wednesday, beginning “The Colbert Report” with a tribute to his mother.
“If you watch the show, if you also like me, that’s because of my mom,” the comedian said of Lorna Colbert, who died last week at the age of 92. He recalled parting ways with her last week before she passed away.
“I said, ‘Mom, I’m going back to New York to do the show,'” Colbert recalled. “And she said, ‘I can’t wait to see it. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.'”
Colbert then breathed a deep sigh before kicking off the show with his signature greeting.
