WisPolitics reports:
The state’s largest teachers union Wednesday formally announced its expected support for former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk for governor.
“She respects educators, she respects workers and she respects the role of unions and collective bargaining in problem solving, in finding solutions for the state,” WEAC President Mary Bell said at an afternoon press conference in the Dane County community of Monona. “That is a stark contrast to Scott Walker’s divisive policies and backroom politics.”
In response to a question at the event, Falk said she’d veto a state budget that didn’t include the restoration of collective bargaining for public employees. This “pledge,” not taken by other Dems who looked at the race, was long said by insiders to be a major reason for WEAC’s support of Falk.
