A new poll of Wisconsin from St. Norbert College sponsored by Wisconsin Public Radio shows President Obama with a 6 point lead in the state over former likely GOP nominee Mitt Romney, 49 percent to 43 percent. Obama’s approval rating in the poll is at 54 percent against 45 percent disapproval.

Obama seems to be helped by some slight economic optimism on the part of Wisconsin residents, with a 42 percent plurality of voters saying they think the national economy is getting better, 35 percent saying it’s the same and 22 percent who said it is getting worse. In St. Norbert’s poll from the Fall of 2011, only 24 percent said the economy was getting better, 36 percent said the same and 40 percent worse.

The TPM poll average shows the race in Wisconsin tightening since Romney effectively locked down the GOP nomination, but President Obama still maintains a small lead.
