Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) has raised $13 million in less than four months (from mid January 2012 to last week), and has $4.8 million in the bank as the recall election for the state’s governorship set for June 5th begins in earnest, according to his campaign. Walker has raised and spent most of $25 million since January 1st of 2011. The governor’s campaign spent millions on television ads propping up his approval rating and defending the anti-union law he and the GOP-led legislature passed last year, arguing the measures were necessary to curtail state and local budgets.

The AP reports that the haul “shatter[s] the record for fundraising by any candidate for state office in Wisconsin. Walker himself set the record when he raised $10 million on his way to victory in 2010.” The campaign reported taking in 125,926 contributions, with “96,292 of those contributions were $50 or less, representing 76.4% of the overall number of contributions,” they said in a release.
