On a conference call with reporters, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin reacted to Mitt Romney’s visit to the state for the primary.

Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin, who is also the party’s presumptive nominee for U.S. Senate, said: “He’s basically turning his back on moderates and working families, and pandering to the extreme right and the Tea Party. just this week, Mitt Romney rushed to embrace my Republican colleague Paul Ryan so heartily, that at this point it’s no longer really the Ryan Budget, it’s the Romney-Ryan Budget.”

Baldwin further added: “The Romney-Ryan Budget would turn Medicare into a voucher program for future generations of retirees. And this would end Medicare as we know it, and risk the guaranteed coverage that seniors have earned and paid for, and ultimately force seniors into private plans and make them pay more for their medical coverage.”

State party chairman Mike Tate also chimed in, on the Romney campaign’s recent high-profile gaffe.

“The Etch-A-Sketch comment, made last week, really comes as no surprise to anyone,” Tate said, slamming Romney for “saying one thing in a race against Ted Kennedy; saying another thing in a race for governor; saying one thing as governor; and then saying a completely different other thing in a race for president.”
