Julian Assange, the editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks, told CNN host Anderson Cooper on Monday night that Edward Snowden, the source of recent NSA leaks, should seek asylum in Latin America.

“I would strongly advise him to go to Latin America. Latin America has shown in the past 10 years that it is really pushing forward in human rights. There’s a long tradition of asylum,” Assange told Cooper.

Assange, whose site published classified U.S. military and diplomatic documents about Iraq and Afghanistan provided by Pfc. Bradley Manning, spoke from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he has been held up since June 19, 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden.
