White House spokesman Jay Carney said Monday at his daily press briefing that it is the administration’s “understanding that [Snowden] is still in Russia.”
“We understand he departed Hong Kong yesterday and arrived in Russia,” Carney said. “Beyond that, I would refer you to Russian authorities.”
Snowden was booked on a flight to Cuba Monday morning, but was a no show. The source of NSA leaks arrived in Moscow on Sunday from Hong Kong, and was expected to fly to Cuba en route to his final destination, possibly Ecuador, where he is seeking asylum.
