Principal Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest offered up these words of support for Attorney General Eric Holder, per the White House pool report:
“In terms of the hearing that Attorney General Holder participated in today, I’ve been following some of the news reports as we’ve been traveling here for the last hour. I don’t have any specific reaction to the contempt vote that you were referring to, other than to point out to you that I believe that today was Attorney General Holder’s ninth trip to capitol hill to testify before congress. that there are more than 7,000 pages of documents that have been released at the request of congress as part of that investigation.”
“And my colleagues at the Department of Justice have also indicated their willingness to cooperate with legitimate oversight efforts. but it does, all of this, I think, illustrates something that maybe you do find newsworthy, which is, I do happen to agree with Congressman Steve King, which is, his observation that this is nothing more than politics. And I think that there’s nothing in today’s news or today’s hearing that would prove Congressman King wrong.”
