Mitt Romney’s tax returns for 2010 and 2011 show that the Romney’s made over $7 million in charitable donations over those two years — a rate of about 16% of their income and which they say is a higher percentage than most Americans give. So where does it go?

On a press call Tuesday morning, the campaign said that a large portion of that money goes to the Mormon church, which showed Romney’s dedication to his religion. The rest of the donations generally went to the Tyler Charitable Foundation, a charitable giving organization set up by the Romneys to make donations. The Tyler Charitable Foundation gives money to causes like MS and cancer research and the Boys and Girls Club.

On the call, they also stressed that the Mormon Church contributes to good causes like the Red Cross. Of course, they also contributed to more unsavory causes like the Prop 8 campaign to outlaw gay marriage in California.
