The Senate Judiciary Committee hearings for the confirmation of President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh began Tuesday. The D.C. appellate judge will be introduced by former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) and attorney Lisa Blatt, a former clerk to liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Member of the Judiciary Committee will make their own introductory remarks, and Kavanaugh will also introduce himself, after taking an oath.
“If confirmed to the Court, I would be part of a Team of Nine, committed to deciding cases according to the Constitution and laws of the United States,” Kavanaugh is expected to say, according to excerpts his remarks released by the White House Tuesday morning. ” I would always strive to be a team player on the Team of Nine.”
