According to multiple reports Saturday, Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA) is resigning his House seat to focus on his run for governor.

From National Journal:

Inslee is the Democratic frontrunner in the race to replace term-limited Gov. Christine Gregoire. He is running against Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna, who has so far waged an impressive campaign. … Washington has not elected a Republican governor since 1980, but McKenna — who ran ahead of President Obama in his 2008 reelection bid — represents the party’s best chance in years.

The Seattle Times notes the resignation has been rumored “for some time” and reports the idea is that “[b]y giving up his seat before his term ends next January, Inslee frees himself of cross-country commutes and will have more time to raise campaign money and travel the state.”
