Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of former President John F. Kennedy, has been selected to serve as the next U.S. ambassador to Japan, according to a report Monday in the Washington Post.

Kennedy provided a significant endorsement of President Barack Obama in 2008. In 2009, she had been viewed as a possible successor to Hillary Clinton’s U.S. Senate seat before ultimately withdrawing her name from consideration.
