Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI), who is facing an imminent recall election initiated by state Democrats in a backlash against his anti-public employee union legislation and provisions of the state budget, has a new TV ad making his own pitch to the state.

“In the three years before I took office, Wisconsin lost 150,000 jobs. But now, well, employer confidence is up, and since the start of the year Wisconsin has added thousands of new jobs,” Walker says. “Instead of going back to the days of billion dollar budget deficits, double digit tax increases and record job loss — let’s keep moving Wisconsin forward.”

When asked for comment by TPM, the state Democrats sent a statement from chairman Mike Tate, saying in part:

“Paid for by sleazy corporate cash, which Walker is raising in the millions, Walker claims that he balanced the budget deficit. But by using the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles Walker promised, Walker’s budget actually leaves Wisconsin with a $3 billion budget deficit, a fact recently highlighted by the state’s largest paper, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

“If you’ll also notice in the ad, Walker is unable to talk about the fact that Wisconsin has lost jobs in every single one of the five months since his disastrous budget has passed and, for the first time in our state’s history, Wisconsin leads the nation in jobs loss.”
