Republican Gov. Scott Walker and Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett jousted over jobs numbers in the Wisconsin recall debate.
The two disputed the validity of different sets of jobs measurements — one that has shown Wisconsin losing jobs, and a census metric the Walker administration released last week showing an increase in jobs under his tenure.
Walker said that the census metric is more accurate, based on 96 percent of employers, while the survey methods showing a decrease were based on only 3.5 percent of employers.
Barrett countered that the survey metric was used by Walker in months when it showed good news, and is relied upon by every other state. He also alleged that the Walker administration had rolled out the census numbers only 20 days before the election, based on unverified data, in order to advertise good news and manipulate the election.
