Republican Gov. Scott Walker has a new TV ad in the Wisconsin recall, the day after Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett won the Democratic primary. And unlike the typical Tea Party-style denunciations of the welfare state, Walker pivots to the general election by touting his support for state healthcare programs.

An announcer says: “Scott Walker has provided more funding for health care than any Wisconsin governor.” The ad then cuts to Walker speaking with two women.

“Well, the truth is we added more than $1.2 billion to programs like this,” says Walker.

“Really?” says one woman. “A billion?” says the other.

“Yeah. In fact, we added more funding for Medicaid programs, like BadgerCare, than any previous governor,” Walker responds. “And by becoming more efficient, we’re able to help seniors, working families, and our most vulnerable.”

The announcer closes out the ad: “Scott Walker — Investing in health care. Leading Wisconsin forward.”
