The Virginia State Board of Elections certified state Sen. Mark Herring (D) as the winner of the Virginia attorney general race on Monday.
The board confirmed that Herring won by a slim 165-vote margin, beating Sen. Mark Obenshain, the Republican candidate in the race.
Obenshain is entitled to call for a recount under Virginia election law.
Almost immediately the Obenshain campaign said it would spend the next few days whether to call for a recount or not.
“Virginia law allows ten days to request a recount,” Obenshain campaign manager Chris Leavitt said in a statement. “We will make further announcements regarding a recount well within that time, in order to ensure the closure and confidence in the results that Virginians deserve.”
