Iowa evangelical leader and CEO of The Family Leader Bob Vander Plaats mentioned several times over the past few months that he would need money to promote the candidate he endorsed. In December, he endorsed Rick Santorum. The Des Moines Register reports that while Vander Plaats asked for help raising money, he never asked a campaign directly for money.

Santorum confirmed that Vander Plaats had mentioned the desire to promote his endorsee and that he needed money to do that, but a spokesman said he was never specifically asked for money, nor did he ever agree to give any.
