John Coale is a Washington lawyer and has been informally advising GOP candidate Herman Cain for the past eight months. He is also the husband of Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren. While others are objecting, he sees nothing wrong with his connection to the candidate.

It’s as you would advise a friend: ‘What do you think about this, what do you think about that?’“ Coale told The Daily Beast.

Van Susteren failed to disclose her family connection to Cain, even though she has interviewed him 10 times since August and was granted the only post-scandal interview with Gloria Cain.

Van Susteren argued on her blog this week that her husband has lots of friends in Washington but “has never worked for any of them nor taken a dime from any of them.”

The Fox News star has yet to make an on-air disclosure of the relationship. Coale says that his role as a “friendly adviser” is “not to the point where Greta should go on her show and say, ‘My husband is a friend of Cain.’ Three out of five nights I know the people she’s interviewing.”
