Following the mass shooting in Newtown, Conn., teachers in Utah flocked to a training course offered free to educators by the Utah Shooting Sports Council Thursday, Reuters reports. In a normal year, about 16 teachers take their concealed carry training courses, according to the group. But the post-Newtown training session drew widespread interest and was capped at 200 participants due to space limitations.

One participant, special education teacher Kasey Hansen of Salt Lake City, said that she now plans to buy a gun and bring it to school. “If we should ever face a shooter like the one in Connecticut, I’m fully prepared to respond with my firearm,” Hansen said.

Utah is one of a couple of states that allow individuals with conceal carry permits to bring their guns onto school grounds.
