Navi Pillay, the UN Commissioner for Human Rights, has said that the Syrian government’s shelling of multiple cities may amount to war crimes and that the shelling should cease immediately. The comment comes on the heels of a spate of attacks against UN observers in the country, as well as what the UN has deemed an intensification of violence.

Despite the comments, the Syrian government has continued to shell opposition forces in the central and eastern provinces.
