Twitter on Tuesday launched a makeover for the profile pages of all of its users, giving users the option to add a large, horizontal-oriented “header” image to the top of their profile pages, which acts as a backdrop for their smaller profile photo and their basic information.

The move follows similar ones from Facebook, which launched large horizontal cover photos as part of its redesigend “Timeline” view in September 2011, and Google Plus, which launched a major photo-centric redesign in April 2012

Twitter project manager Sachin Agarwal also said in a an official company blog post that photo streams — strips showing thumbnail images of a user’s most recently tweeted image links — are now avaiable on mobile devices, from the iPhone and iPad to Android smartphones and tablets.
