President-elect Donald Trump said Friday night that his supporters were “vicious” and “violent” during his campaign.
“You people were vicious, violent, screaming, ‘Where’s the wall? We want the wall!’ Screaming, ‘Prison! Prison! Lock her up!’ I mean, you are going crazy,” Trump said at a stop in Orlando, Florida, on what his aides have billed as a “thank you tour.”
“You were nasty and mean and vicious and you wanted to win, right?” he said. “But now, now it’s much different. Now, you’re laid back, you’re cool, you’re mellow, right? You’re basking in the glory of victory.”
Before the election, Trump alleged without evidence that violent incidents at his campaign rallies were incited by paid protestors and, on one occasion, specifically blamed supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
After the election, Trump slammed “professional protesters, incited by the media” after protests sprung up in cities across the United States.
