Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump argued Sunday that he only lost the Iowa caucus because Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) took votes from retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson.

Trump said in an interview with CNN’s “State of the Union” that “there wasn’t a loss” for him in Iowa. Caucus results put him in second place, behind Cruz.

“There wasn’t a loss. I came in second. And I only came in second
because of the fact that Cruz took a lot of votes away from Carson that
should not have been taken away,” Trump said. “I
mean, he’s apologized, but I don’t know what comes of that. Let’s see
what happens. But that was the only reason I came in second.”
