When asked during the second presidential debate Sunday night about vulgar comments he made back in 2005 about women, Donald Trump made his long-anticipated direct attack on his opponent’s husband’s sex scandals.

“Never been anybody in the history of politics in this nation that’s been so abusive to women, so you can say any way you want to say it, but Bill Clinton was abusive to women,” Trump said. “Hillary Clinton attacked those same women and attacked them viciously.”

Trump then pointed out that he had brought along to the debate three women who had accused Bill Clinton of sexual impropriety. He also pointed out that he had invited Kathy Shelton to the debate. Clinton had represented Shelton’s accused rapist as a young lawyer at the request of a judge. Trump had also hosted a live event with the women earlier in the evening.

Trump said that “I apologize for those words. But it is things that people say, but what President Clinton did, he was impeached, lost his license to practice law. He had to pay an $850,000 fine, to one of the women, Paula Jones, who’s also here tonight.”

The audience began to applaud and the debate moderators asked them to be silent.
