Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on Monday said the Obama administration is not engaging in fear-mongering over the looming sequestration budget cuts, which he said will have real “consequences.”
Appearing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” LaHood warned of significant delays at airports and furloughs for air traffic controllers unless a deal is struck before the Friday deadline.
“We’re not using scare tactics. What we’re doing is sending up warning flares to people that these cuts have consequences and here’s what the consequences are,” LaHood said. “That’s what we’ve put out, not to scare people but just as a warning that there are consequences.”
LaHood urged congressional Republicans to come to the table, and said he’s confident that a deal will be reached before the deadline.
