Stuart Stevens, who served as chief strategist for the Romney campaign, said that Clint Eastwood’s appearance at the Republican National Convention in Tampa hurt the campaign in some respects, during an interview on “The Charlie Rose Show” Wednesday.

“To the degree it was a distraction, it was bad,” Stuart said.

But Stuart also defended Eastwood, saying it was “good of him to come out,” and that “our voters liked Clint Eastwood more than they didn’t like Clint Eastwood.”

On whether or not Eastwood gave the speech that the campaign had expected him too — a speech he had given before at a fundraiser — Stuart said, “Not in the same format.”
