House Republicans will gain seats in the 2014 election, the chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee said Friday.
“I think we clearly have the ability to net gain seats in 2014,” NRCC Chairman Rep. Greg Walden (R-OR) said at a Christian Science Monitor breakfast.
Walden added that he expected he expected the “dominant” issue in the next election cycle to be Obamacare, especially in light of the problematic rollout of healthcare.gov and President Barack Obama’s “fix” earlier in the week adding additional flexibility for insurers offering plans that don’t comply with the Affordable Care Act.
A number of conservatives argued the push to only fund the government if Obamacare is defunded now seems like a good idea, even though Republicans saw incredibly low approval numbers immediately following that effort.
