Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) argued Thursday that it was liberal, big government policies which caused the financial crisis and the Great Recession, but that Republicans had failed during the 2012 elections to make that point.
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference in suburban Washington, D.C., Toomney recalled how President Obama campaigned against Mitt Romney by saying America should not return to the policies that brought on the financial crisis.
“It was the left that got us into this mess, that’s a fact,” Toomey said. But, he added, the GOP failed to explain that in 2012 and therefore lost.
