Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) argued Wednesday that background checks do not lead to an “erosion of our Second Amendment rights,” a warning made by the National Rifle Association which has cautioned that they could lead to a national registry and ultimately gun confiscation.
“We hear sometimes about background checks leading to an erosion of our Second Amendment rights,” Toomey said at a news conference to discuss a compromise on background checks he worked out with Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV). “That simply hasn’t happened. I am going to make sure it doesn’t.”
