Republican nominee Tommy Thompson launched an ad on Tuesday in the Wisconsin Senate race, using imagery of rubble from the 9/11 attacks to accuse Democrat Tammy Baldwin of disrespecting victims of it.

“Tammy Baldwin had the opportunity to vote to honor the victims of 9/11 and she voted against it,” says a female veteran, followed a male veteran: “It is a slap in the face to every one of their families and anyone who has ever served in the United States military. Tammy Baldwin’s extreme, far left approach leaves this country in jeopardy.”

The Baldwin campaign responded soon with a press release, citing that the ad is based on Baldwin’s vote in 2006 against a routine annual resolution commemorating the attack — for which, in that year, House Republicans put in language praising the PATRIOT Act and other laws. Spokesman John Kraus said: “Tommy Thompson is so desperate he is using the 9/11 attack on America to make a dishonest ad that tries to use human tragedy for his own political gain.”
