Cindy Gamrat, R-Plainwell, and Rep Todd Courser, R-Lapeer wave to reporters in the House of Representatives in Lansing. A Michigan House leader on Friday, Aug. 7, 2015 requested an investigation into allegations that Courser orchestrated the distribution of a fictional email claiming he had sex with a male prostitute in a bid to conceal an extramarital relationship. In audio recordings obtained by the Detroit News, Courser said the email was designed to create "a complete smear campaign" about him and Gamrat so a revelation about their relationship would seem "mild by comparison." The Michigan lawmakers who were recently ousted from the Michigan legislature after they tried to cover up an affair have both announced that they will run for their seats again.

Michigan state Rep. Cindy Gamrat (R), who was expelled from the legislature last week, filed on Thursday to run in the special election for her seat.

“What weighed really heavy on me this whole time, was I felt it was really important for my voters to have a voice in this. I continue to have to fight for them,” Gamrat told the Detroit Free Press. “People keep telling me they feel terrible about what has happened to me and my family. They want to see me fight on.”

Michigan state Rep. Todd Courser (R), who resigned last week before his colleagues could vote to expel him, announced on Friday that he would run for his seat again.

“I felt you needed to see the Conservative work that I accomplished as your State Representative,” he said in a Facebook post, noting that his wife encouraged him to run again.

Courser and Gamrat were ousted from the Michigan house after Courser faked a gay sex scandal in an attempt to cover up an affair with Gamrat. Courser said that he initiated the cover-up to expose blackmailers.
