The Wisconsin Government Accountability Board, which oversees elections in the state, will argue in a Dane County court today for an extension on their legal window of time to review and certify the recall petitions against Republican Gov. Scott Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, and four Republican state Senators — which all total up to over 1.9 million signatures.

The Fox affiliate in Green Bay reports:

“State law gives us 31 days to do it and that’s just not realistic, so the last time we asked for 60 days in order to do it,” said GAB spokesman Reid Magney.

That was last year when the GAB needed to review a mere 200,000 signatures in 9 state senate recall races. The GAB lawyers will be in court later this morning to make their case for even more time this time around.

Also Tuesday, Walker and the other recall-targeted Republicans wrote to the same judge for an extension on their own ten-day window to review and challenge petitions — based in part on the fact that because there are so many of them, the GAB itself has not been able to give them copies of more than a fraction yet.
