Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland (D) is not interested in a rematch with current Ohio Gov. John Kasich. On Tuesday, Strickland announced he would not run for governor of the Buckeye State in 2014 when Kasich’s term is up. Kasich defeated Strickland in 2010.

More from the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

[Strickland’s] move would clear the field for other Democrats, such as Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald or former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray, to become the party’s front-runner.

Strickland, who lost a close re-election bid to Kasich in 2010, had been weighing another run for months, hinting strongly at last summer’s Democratic National Convention that he was interested.
