Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Saturday criticized Democrats for attacking religious freedom and alienating Christians in the U.S.

“Today’s Democratic Party has decided there is no room for Christians in today’s Democratic Party,” Cruz said at the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition summit, according to The Hill. “There is a liberal fascism that is going after Christian believers.”

Cruz said that support for same-sex marriage by liberals has pushed Christians away from the Democratic party.

“Today’s Democratic Party has become so radicalized for legalizing gay marriage in all 50 states that there is no longer any room for religious liberty,” Cruz said, according to The Hill.

The presidential candidate called on U.S. leaders to “stand unapologetically in defense of the Judeo-Christian values upon which America was built.”
