A Syrian government helicopter crashed outside the capital of Damascus on Thursday, the New York Times reports:

While the state-run television offered no details of the incident, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based activist group, cited its contacts in Syria as saying the helicopter was brought down by rebel fire, but those accounts could not be confirmed. There were no immediate reports of the number of casualties.
