Al Jazeera reports that a suicide bomber has killed a Yemeni general in the port city of Aden. The bombing, which took place on Monday, killed General Salem Ali Qatan and wounded four others.
Qatan, the chief military commander in south Yemen, had helped lead a month-long surge against al-Qaeda, helping force the group from key towns in the Abyan and Shabwa provinces. His recent promotion to general came as part of a Gulf-sponsored transition of power in Yemen.
