Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) won’t be tweeting during President Barack Obama’s 2014 State of the Union address, after a tweet exchange during last year’s address raised questions about his relationship with a college-aged woman.
Cohen responded “No tweets 4me” to a follower who asked on Sunday night if Cohen could tweet at him during the address.
“@andrewjpg: @RepCohen looking forward to #SOTU this week. Can we tweet each other during it? Better yet, I’ll be your guest!” No tweets 4me

During the 2013 State of the Union, Cohen tweeted and then deleted a series of messages with a young woman named Victoria Brink, prompting the press to question whether the unmarried congressman was flirting.
Brink wrote “just saw you on tv!” to Cohen ln the middle of Obama’s speech. Cohen responded “pleased u r watching .ilu” and “nice to know you were watchin SOTU(state of the union).Happy Valentines beautiful girl. ilu.” “ilu” was an abbreviation for “I love you.”
Cohen at first said Brink was the daughter of a friend, then revealed he learned Brink was his own daughter three years earlier. The congressman was then “stunned” in July when a paternity test confirmed he was not in fact Brink’s father.
Even if Cohen won’t be live-tweeting Obama’s remarks, he”ll likely be watching. “Thankfully #GRAMMYs not opposite #SOTU,” he tweeted Sunday.
#Grammys and #Chicago great sounds. Thankfully #GRAMMYs not opposite #SOTU .#Beatles 2 come & I’m sure some #MemphisMusic & #JT !
