Rep. Steve King (R-IA) tweeted a cartoon on Monday that depicted President Obama wearing a turban while speaking about the Crusades at the National Prayer Breakfast last week.
“When you say our country must never forget, are you referring to 9-11?” a speech bubble in the cartoon asked.
“No. The Crusades,” Obama answered.
The cartoon showed Obama in similar garb as a photo of him during a visit to Kenya that was circulated during his run for president against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2008.
The artist is Glenn McCoy, whose cartoon was also posted on TownHall.com on Thursday. McCoy is one of two cartoonist brothers (self-dubbed “The Flying McCoys“), both of whom have a tendency to sketch comics featuring dodgy racial content.
McCoy’s brother Gary McCoy stoked outrage in August when a Missouri paper ran his cartoon depicting black protestors in Ferguson, Mo. as screaming looters.
Obama’s speech at the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday enraged conservatives, many who said the President slandered Christians by comparing the religious violence of the Crusades and slavery to the Islamic State terror group.
King’s tweet remained online as of Monday afternoon.
