Stephen Colbert knows he should oppose an executive action on immigration by President Obama, but he isn’t quite sure how.

On Tuesday night, the host of “The Colbert Report” looked to fellow Republicans House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani for ideas.

It was Giuliani who suggested the GOP should defund anything that could possibly help the government carry out Obama’s executive action.

The host nodded. “The President is refusing to deport these illegals, so we must cut the funding to pay the immigration officers he won’t need to not deport them,” Colbert reasoned.

“It’s just like when I was a kid and I refused to rake the yard, so as a punishment my parents wouldn’t buy me a rake,” he continued.

“Really taught me a lesson,” he said. “To this day I don’t rake my yard. I pay Louis to do it. I assume he’s a citizen.”

Colbert then reconsidered.

“I don’t know if he’s a citizen, he doesn’t speak English and I pay him in cash.”
