Georgia State Rep. David Cases has switched allegiances from Newt Gingrich to Mitt Romney. On a conference call with reporters, Casas stressed that it was Gingrich’s attacks on Romney’s career at Bain Capital and free enterprise overall that caused him to change his mind. Casas said this was a common grievance and that even other Gingrich supporters who sympathized with his reasons for switching camps. Casas also defended Romney’s wealth, saying that it’s the American dream.

Here’s Casas’s official statement, sent out by the Romney campaign:

“Over the last few weeks, I have had a serious change of heart. While I initially supported Speaker Gingrich, his continued attacks upon the free enterprise system that has made our country great are particularly something I will not stand for. I look forward to joining the team and urge my fellow Georgians to support the clear conservative that will fight for the America we love, Mitt Romney.”
