South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has ordered a May special election to replace Rep. Tim Scott (R-SC), whom Haley chose to fill outgoing Sen. Jim DeMint’s seat, the AP reports. Scott’s last day in the House is Wednesday.

Haley’s executive order, signed Wednesday morning, sets up a timeline for filling Scott’s seat. Party primaries are scheduled for March 19, followed by any potential runoffs on April 2 and the general election on May 7.
