Joe Arpaio, the popular Arizona sheriff targeted by multiple civil and criminal investigations, announced Thursday he will run for a sixth term in office.
Arpaio, who turns 80 this year, was widely expected to run again but had not made a formal announcement before now. His campaign said it already raised $6 million for the bid.
The Maricopa County sheriff is a hardliner on illegal immigration and frequent critic of the Obama administration. He remains politically sought after, despite his legal problems.
