The suggestion by Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) Wednesday that the protestors who disrupted the first day of the Brett Kavanaugh hearings were following the lead of the interrupting Democratic senators drew even more protests from members of the public.
“We are not working with the Democrats. We are working for ourselves,” one protestors, who was in a wheelchair, said while security removed her from the room.
Grassley had kicked off the second day of the Supreme Court confirmation hearings by noting that Senate Democrats interrupted the Tuesday’s proceedings 63 times before lunch and that 70 protestors were arrested. He said the arrested protestors were following the lead of the Dem senators.
This started a new wave of protestors, with some of demonstrators rebuking Grassley’s claim specifically. Others just yelled more generic protests of Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
“Sham president, sham justice,” one protestor yelled.
