Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) said Thursday he did not believe Jack Lew should be confirmed as treasury secretary but stopped short of promising to filibuster his nomination.

“I believe this man has been the architect of the Obama budget policy,” Sessions said on CNN. “I believe it’s very fundamentally wrong and I do not believe he has been honest with the american people about it.”

Sessions responded to a question about using the filibuster against Lew by saying he intends “to be aggressive in challenging his nomination and we will see how that goes in the weeks ahead.”

Sessions also took issue with Lew’s relationship with President Obama, pointing out that “this is another person just very personally close to the president.”
